BETEL HYDROSOL / HIDROSOL SIRIH HIJAU By DDISTILLERS
PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION
Betel
Green Hydrosol is a pure aromatic water obtained from
the steam distillation of fresh Piper betle leaves. During distillation,
hot steam extracts bioactive compounds from betel leaves, producing two layers:
essential oil and hydrosol. The hydrosol represents the “gentle essence” of
betel, rich in water-soluble volatile molecules such as eugenol and hydroxychavicol,
but at lower concentrations—making it safer, lighter, and more comfortable for
daily use.
Organoleptically,
this hydrosol is a clear to pale green liquid with a distinctive fresh-herbal
aroma, soft, warm, and slightly balsamic. When applied to the skin, it provides
a cooling, clean, and refreshing sensation without leaving an oily residue. Its
light aromatic profile makes it an ideal choice for facial toners, body mists,
or modern aromatherapy formulations.
BOTANICAL
& MORPHOLOGY
Piper
betle L. is a perennial climbing plant belonging to the
family Piperaceae, widely cultivated in Southeast Asia, India, and other
tropical regions. It is valued primarily for its aromatic leaves, which are
rich in secondary metabolites including essential oils, phenolics, and
flavonoids—responsible for its antimicrobial, antioxidant, and therapeutic
activities.

HISTORY
& USAGE
Betel
leaf (Piper betle L.) has been integral to cultural and traditional
medicine practices across Asia, particularly in India, China, and Southeast
Asia. Traditionally, betel leaves were used as a natural antiseptic, breath
freshener, and medicinal ingredient in Ayurveda, Unani, and Indonesian herbal
practices. Its most famous traditional use is as a chew, combined with areca
nut and lime, serving social, ritual, and health-related purposes.
Scientific
research has since validated the bioactive properties of betel leaves,
confirming antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and even anticancer
activities.
Betel
Green Hydrosol is a more recent development, emerging alongside advances in
modern distillation. Once regarded as a by-product of essential oil production,
hydrosols are now recognized for containing water-soluble volatiles and polar
compounds absent in oils, making them gentler and safer for skin care,
aromatherapy, and herbal pharmaceuticals. Today, Betel Green Hydrosol is
positioned as a value-added product that bridges traditional wisdom with modern
wellness innovation.
