This information is
for topical use only and is not intended to replace prescribed medication or
professional medical advice or to diagnose any type of health condition.
Never ingest essential
oils and remember to dilute them with a suitable carrier oil such as olive oil
or coconut oil. This is due to the fact that organic and pure essential oils
are highly concentrated liquids and direct use of essential oils on the skin
can cause allergic reactions. Caution should be taken if you are a
breastfeeding or pregnant mother. Keep out of reach of children.
Speak with your
healthcare practitioner before choosing an essential oil that is appropriate
for your health situation and unique individual constitution.

DESCRIPTION
Agarwood Bouya
Viscous Oil by DDistillers
is steam-distilled from the heartwood of Aetoxylon sympetalum, an
endemic agarwood species from Kalimantan (Borneo). The tree naturally produces
aromatic oleoresin after inoculation by parasitic fungi such as Phialophora
parasitica. The resulting thick oil is a rich, fragrant base widely used in
luxurious Arabic perfumes known as Oud, and is globally regarded for its
spiritual and therapeutic aromatic profile [1][2][6].
BOTANICAL
INSIGHT
Agarwood is
derived from multiple plant families including Thymelaeaceae, Euphorbiaceae,
and Leguminosae, particularly the genera Aquilaria, Aetoxylon, Gonystylus,
and others. Aetoxylon sympetalum can reach a height of 18–40 meters with
a trunk diameter of 30–60 cm. It thrives in both primary and secondary forests
and is native to Kalimantan.
Trees are manually inoculated at 10 years of age and allowed to mature for 2
additional years before being harvested. Species type, location, part of the
tree used, infection duration, and extraction methods all influence the final
aromatic quality [3][10][12].
HISTORICAL
BACKGROUND
Indonesia’s agarwood has a
long history dating back to the Sriwijaya Kingdom as a prized trade item. The
variety known as Black Oud (Aetoxylon sympetalum) originates from
Kalimantan and has been traditionally used for emotional, neurological, and
spiritual healing, especially for enhancing meditation.
Historically, the Batak Porsea people traded agarwood to Persia and Arabia via
the Asahan River. Locally, agarwood is known by many names such as Karas, Depu,
Hau Halim, Kayu Alim, and Kayu Kareh. Globally, it is also referred to as Oud,
Oudh, Agar, Eaglewood, and Aloeswood. It appears in Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist,
and Christian texts, symbolizing spiritual purification and medicinal use
[4][5][6][11].
