Product Description & Distillation
Process
Agarwood Malino
Oil by DDistillers is a premium-grade essential oil extracted through steam
distillation of Aquilaria malaccensis heartwood. The trees are
sustainably cultivated in the tropical forests of South Sulawesi under ethical
agroforestry systems. At around 10 years of age, the trees are inoculated
manually with specific microbes such as Fusarium and Phialophora,
stimulating natural resin production over 1.5 to 2 years. This resin-rich
heartwood is then distilled, yielding an oil with intense olfactory depth and
pharmacological complexity.

Sourcing & Sustainability
Aquilaria
malaccensis is native to
Southeast Asia and is currently listed under CITES Appendix II due to
habitat pressure and overharvesting. DDistillers implements a replant-and-harvest
rotation system, promoting both ecological conservation and local livelihoods.
These trees thrive in primary and secondary forests up to 750 meters elevation
and require natural wounds or inoculation to generate the aromatic resin — a
process that makes every drop of oil rare and precious.
Cultural & Historical Significance
The use of
agarwood in Indonesia traces back to the Sriwijaya Kingdom, a maritime
empire based in Barus, Sumatra. Ancient traders from the Batak Porsea tribe
transported gaharu through the Asahan River to Middle Eastern markets. Locally
known as Gaharu, Karas, Depu, Hau Halim, Kayu Alim, and Kayu Kareh,
agarwood is globally recognized as Oud, Oudh, Eaglewood, Aloeswood, and Agarwood.
Historically
revered in Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist, and Christian traditions, this
sacred oil has been central to rituals, spiritual purification, and elite
perfumery for millennia.
