prescribed medication or professional medical advice or to diagnose any type of
health condition.
Never ingest essential oils and remember to dilute them with a suitable carrier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil. This is due to the fact that organic and pure essential oils are highly concentrated liquids and direct use of essential oils on the skin can cause allergic reactions. Caution should be taken if you are a breastfeeding or pregnant mother. Keep out of reach of children.
Speak with your healthcare practitioner before selecting an essential oil that is appropriate for your health situation and unique individual constitution.

Product Description &
Production Process
Agarwood
Sumbawa Oil by DDistillers
is a premium-grade essential oil extracted through steam distillation of
heartwood from Aquilaria malaccensis trees that have naturally formed
aromatic resin. These trees are grown in the tropical forests of West Nusa
Tenggara under an eco-conscious and sustainable cultivation system using manual
inoculation techniques.
Inoculation
is applied at around 10 years of age, triggering the tree to produce resin in
response to microbial infections (e.g., Fusarium and Phialophora).
After a resin formation period of 1.5 to 2 years, the trees are harvested for
distillation. The resulting resin enhances the oil's aromatic and
pharmacological richness.
Chemical Composition &
Therapeutic Potential

oil contains over 70 active compounds, primarily sesquiterpenoids and chromone

Origin & Sustainability
Aquilaria
malaccensis
belongs to the Thymelaeaceae family and grows naturally in both primary
and secondary tropical forests up to elevations of 750 meters. Its distribution
spans the Indian subcontinent, Myanmar, the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, and the
Philippines.
Our
Agarwood trees are sustainably grown and manually inoculated in Sulawesi. After
two years of resin formation, trees are harvested and distilled. The trees can
reach up to 50 meters in height with a trunk diameter of ~60 cm and take at
least a decade to mature fully. The essential oil derived from its resin-rich
wood is among the most precious in the world. Its quality varies based on
species, geographic origin, wood section, infection duration, and harvesting
technique [3].
Cultural & Historical
Significance
Dating
back thousands of years, Agarwood (Gaharu) was already an essential commodity
in the Sriwijaya Kingdom’s trade networks. Barus (Sumatra) was a historical
trade hub for spices, camphor, sandalwood, gaharu, ivory, and gold. The Batak
Porsea people traded gaharu along the Asahan River to Arab and Persian
merchants.
In
Indonesia, it is locally known as Gaharu, with regional names such as Karas
(Malay), Hau Halim (Batak), Kayu Alim (Lampung), and Kayu
Kareh (Minangkabau).
Globally,
it’s referred to as Oudh, Oud, Agarwood, Eaglewood, Aloeswood, or Agar.
It holds deep cultural and spiritual significance across Hindu, Buddhist,
Islamic, and Christian traditions. Agarwood has been widely used in incense,
perfumes, and traditional medicine across India, Southeast Asia, China, and the
Middle East.
