THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS

  • Hair Growth Support: 5% candlenut oil in nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) formulations increased hair growth in animal models, likely due to essential fatty acids nourishing follicles.
  • Skin Hydration & Psoriasis Care: Small clinical studies show kukui oil is safe as a moisturizer, though anti-psoriasis effects were not significantly different from mineral oil (further research required).
  • Antioxidant & Anti-inflammatory: Demonstrates free radical scavenging activity (DPPH, FRAP assays) and potential anti-inflammatory properties in in-vitro studies.

GENERAL APPLICATIONS

Traditionally and in modern usage, candlenut oil serves as:

  • Skin emollient: Moisturizes dry, cracked, or flaky skin.
  • Hair treatment: Softens hair, adds shine, and reduces dryness.
  • Cosmetic ingredient: Base oil for massage oils, lotions, and facial serums.

3. Hair Serum – NLC Inspired
Purpose: Inspired by research-based nanostructured lipid carriers for stronger, healthier hair.
Ingredients (100 ml):

  • Candlenut oil – 8 ml
  • Fractionated coconut oil (MCT) – 10 ml
  • Cetyl alcohol – 8 g
  • Tween 80 – 6 ml

Extraction Method: Cold Pressing

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Candlenut (Kukui Nut) Carrier Oil is a plant-derived oil obtained from the seeds of Aleurites moluccanus using the cold pressing method to preserve its natural bioactive compounds.
It has a pale yellow color, a light nutty aroma, and low viscosity, allowing it to absorb quickly into the skin.

Typical Fatty Acid Profile (GC–MS analysis):

  • Linoleic Acid (C18:2): ± 40-60%
  • α-Linolenic Acid (C18:3): ± 15–25%
  • Oleic Acid (C18:1): ± 10-20%
  • Palmitic Acid (C16:0): ± 4-6%

Naturally rich in Vitamin E (tocopherols) and phenolic compounds, this oil exhibits antioxidant activity. Due to its high iodine value (136–167), it is prone to oxidation and requires proper storage.

BOTANICAL & MORPHOLOGICAL PROFILE

  • Scientific Name: Aleurites moluccanus (L.) Willd.
  • Family: Euphorbiaceae
  • Tree Height: Up to 30 m with an upright trunk and spreading branches
  • Leaves: Heart-shaped or oval (10–20 cm long) in mature trees; young leaves often 3–7 lobed
